Maile Shimabukuro has served as the State House Representative for District 45 (Wai`anae, Makaha, Makua), since 2003. She is Vice Chair of the Hawaiian Affairs Committee, and a member of the Education, Higher Education, Human Services, and Health Committees. She is also a member of the Hawaiian and Women’s Caucuses.
Maile graduated from the University of Hawai`i William S. Richardson School of Law, Colorado College, and `Iolani School. She holds a B.A. in English, and a J.D.

Maile is an attorney at a legal services organization, and represents clients in public benefits, housing, family, and consumer matters. Maile has also worked as a law clerk in State District Court; legal assistant to Alan B. Burdick, Esq.; research assistant to Professor Eric Yamamoto; and reporter for The Leeward Coaster.
Maile serves her community as a member of the MA'O Organic Farm Fundraising Committee, "People's Path" ad hoc committee, and Leeward Community College-Wai`anae Community Advisory Board.

Maile, who is half Okinawan and half Chinese, grew up in Wai`anae. She has a son, Keani, and a stepdaughter, Emma. Maile is the proud daughter of Karen Young, a nurse practitioner at Wai`anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center (WCCHC), and James Shimabukuro, a professor at Kapi`olani Community College. Her stepfather is Dr. Fred Dodge. Maile's interests include surfing, the outdoors, politics, and travel.
